Generalized motor abilities and timing behavior in children with specific language impairment.

چکیده
PURPOSE To examine whether children with specific language impairment (SLI) differ from normally developing peers in motor skills, especially those skills related to timing. METHOD Standard measures of gross and fine motor development were obtained. Furthermore, finger and hand movements were recorded while children engaged in 4 different timing tasks, including tapping and drawing circles in time with a metronome or a visual target. Fourteen children with SLI (age 6 to 8 years) and 14 age-matched peers who were typically developing participated. RESULTS As expected, children with SLI showed poorer performance on a standardized test of gross and fine motor skill than did their normally developing peers. However, timing skill in the manual domain was equivalent to that seen in typically developing children. CONCLUSIONS Consistent with earlier findings, relatively poor gross and fine motor performance is observed in children with SLI. Surprisingly, rhythmic timing is spared.

Lexical Access in Persian Speaking Children With and Without Specific Language Impairment
Introduction: Word retrieval problems are among the limitations observed in children with specific language impairment during the initial schooling years. These restrictions are predictive of reading problems and poor performance at school. Additionally, studies on lexical access in Persian speaking children are scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate and compare naming accuracy and ...

متن کاملPicture Naming in Children With and Without Specific Language Impairment: An Error Analysis Study
Objectives: The lexical-level deficits are one of the hallmark limitations observed in early school-age children with specific language impairment. These problems are the predictors of reading problems and poor performance at school. Most studies in Persian-speaker children with specific language impairment have focused on syntax and morphology and the naming errors profile of these children ar...
متن کاملThe Effectiveness of Johnston and Ramon Perceptual-Motor Program on Promoting Gross Motor Skills of Children With Visual Impairment: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Introduction: The integration of various senses in the form of perceptual-motor activity is important in different aspects of physical, perceptual, cognitive and psychosocial development. In children with visual impairment, the reduction of visual stimuli will restrict the acquisition of motor skills, including gross motor skills, which affects their perceptual-motor skills. There are few studi...
